About being a Delegate
Delegates and activists in the workplace are the key to the strength of the LHMU. In a union with over 120,000 members across thousands of workplaces and occupations, the role of a delegate is challenging, varied and exciting. Delegates are the face of the LHMU, and also the heart and soul of our organising union.
What is a delegate?
A delegate is a member who has put their hand up to become more active in the union because they are passionate about creating a better workplace for everyone at work. A delegate is nominated by their co-workers to represent and organise their workplace. Delegates are important to the union because they are the driving force behind keeping the union strong and united.

What are the roles and responsibilities of a delegate?
A delegate is someone who ensures that everyone on their worksite is kept up to date, and helps distribute information to their workmates. They are the first port of call for their workmates and for the union’s staff. Delegates are the link between LHMU members, their union and the union’s staff.
