Industries

LHMU is one of the largest and most diverse unions in Australia. LHMU members do essential work in hundreds of different industries, sectors and occupations. The five main industry groups are: property services, hospitality, children’s services, health & aged care, and manufacturing, mining & miscellaneous. LHMU is an industrial union – we know that quality jobs and productive businesses will only thrive in industries that are stable, well organised and sustainable. In these industries, all workers are treated with respect and fairness. LHMU works towards this vision in each of our industries.

• Hospitality

  LHMU hospitality members work in casinos, clubs, pubs, hotels, motels, theme parks, catering, cafes, restaurants and other venues. We take pride in providing excellent service to millions of customers and guests across the hospitality and tourism industry.

• Health & Aged Care

  LHMU health & aged care members work in Aboriginal health, public and private health, hospitals, ambulance services, disability services, aged care, dentistry, radiography, pathology services and other health services. We provide essential and emergency health services to some of the most vulnerable members of our society. We are at hand to give you and your family professional care when you need it.

• Manufacturing, Mining & Miscellaneous

  LHMU manufacturing, mining & miscellaneous members work in bakeries, breweries, wineries and other food and beverage production. We also make paint, rubber, tyres, oils, plastics, and other building products. We tan leather, carve stone, and mine resources. You may not realise it, but every day you use products that are based on our careful work. Our work is sometimes difficult and dangerous, but we know our rights and stick together in the union to make our industries safe and productive.

• Property Services

  LHMU property services members work as cleaners, security officers, parking attendants, caterers, prison officers, life guards, gardeners, gate keepers and others. We provide essential services at schools, offices, airports, stadiums and at many other venues. We keep these places safe, clean and working well for everyone who uses them.

• Children's Services

  LHMU children’s services members work in childcare and as teacher aides, education assistants, and other educators. We are the professionals caring for and educating the next generation of Australians. We work hard to make sure that all children in our care are given a great start in life.
